Shaped

[Quotation Marks, 1990, 96” x 230” (244cm x 584)]

This series was at least started, if not completed, during William’s BFA at SFU. The photo above was taken at an SFU exhibition.

All pieces are acrylic on canvas stretched over handmade frames and generally 5 to 7 feet tall.

Surely if he revisited this series today there would be a hashtag.

Missing Pieces:

  • If I recall correctly, there was also a giant green bread tie that was my favorite, but that William very happily sold to one of his professors.

  • He also created a whole series of pieces based on letraset pages in various massive fonts and sizes. Although that work resulted in my inheriting excessive indecision in font selection, I have not found any slides or photos of it. The world will have to take my word for it.
