Having worked with thousands of pieces of chewed gum on the gum pack and tree pieces, William then turned to creating a taxonomy of chewed gum.

Missing Pieces:

  • After the gum work, William turned to writing for many years, which was a lot more portable but less photogenic.

  • When he spoke of new art pieces, they included things like taking the entire Oxford English dictionary, letter by letter, and putting it in alphabetical order (for eg, the letter ‘a’ a million times, followed by the letter ‘b’…) on a single canvas. Always thinking big.
