[Three-Seater Couch, used clothing]

This series was made out of used clothing. The particular piece above was featured in an exhibit in Vancouver, BC. Somehow it made it out of our basement, despite weighing a lot. Also, very uncomfortable for sitting in any position.

William collected the clothing from Value Village and the Sally Anne - these are the items rejected by those places. They’re often sent to be turned into rags or sent to developing countries, displacing local garment makers. They’re packaged in large pressed cubes like this:

I’m not certain what the above piece is, but it definitely contains more than just clothes.




Missing Pieces:

  • There were also several pieces with shoes, including a huge pile of them, which may have been in a gallery at one point; however, I have no images.

  • He also pitched the idea to make a massive one story high pile of used clothes in the lobby of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
