War Peace & Pieces

[Peace, 1991, war medals and badges on acrylic on canvas]

Army surplus stores were a frequent source of materials, which is where William purchased several large bins of assorted war medals and badges for this and related pieces.

The nazi swastika pin was in one of the bins. William debated whether to include it in this piece, ultimately deciding to go ahead. He said they all at least claim to be doing this for “peace” - their version of peace after they win.
